Malaysia, Singapore Debut High-Speed Driverless Train

  • The first driverless trains for the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link were unveiled and will start testing this month in Singapore.
  • The RTS Link is set to be fully operational by December 2026, connecting Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, with Woodlands in Singapore, promising travel times of five to six minutes.
  • The driverless trains will run at speeds up to 80km/h, carrying up to 10,000 passengers per hour and feature innovative safety and inclusivity measures, such as hearing induction loops and emergency call buttons.
  • The immigration and customs facilities will be co-located within the same building at the stations, streamlining the clearance process for passengers and aiming to ease congestion at border crossings.
