Downpour Interactive, the developer of Onward, has been merged into Camouflaj as Meta ends further development of Onward.
After the recent Onward 2.0 launch, Downpour Interactive confirmed that no more updates will be released for the game.
Onward will still be accessible on Steam, Quest, and Link but without ongoing developer support, only critical bug fixes.
The dedicated support team for Onward has been disbanded, and users are advised to contact Quest or Steam support for technical issues.
Following its acquisition by Meta in 2021, Downpour Interactive becomes the latest first-party studio closure after Ready at Dawn's shutdown last year.
Downpour's team has been permanently integrated into Camouflaj, the studio behind Iron Man VR and Batman: Arkham Shadow.
Meta also laid off staff at Ready at Dawn and Downpour Interactive, affecting Echo VR and Onward developer teams.
Onward, a VR multiplayer game launched in 2016, saw support until the recent announcement, despite hints from Mark Zuckerberg about Onward 2 in 2021.
Onward Update 2.0 brought significant changes like a graphical overhaul of weapons and equipment, new weapons, co-op mode, new map, and an operator system for character customization.
As of now, Onward is available on Meta Horizon Store for Quest, Meta's PC Store for Link & Rift, and Steam.
