Meta for Education, a new virtual & mixed reality platform from Meta, has launched in beta to over a dozen universities & colleges in the US & UK.
The Meta for Education beta program includes Arizona State University, Houston Community College, Imperial College London, Miami Dade College, Morehouse College, New Mexico State University, San Diego State University, Savannah College of Art & Design, The University of Glasgow, University of Iowa, University of Leeds, University of Miami, and University of Michigan, who will provide feedback on the program before its full launch.
The program will allow teachers, trainers and administrators to access a range of education-specific apps and features, and make it possible for them to manage multiple Quest devices at once.
Meta for Education seems to include Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest 2.
Meta for Education is similar to the Quest for Business platform, which allows mass management, updating, and app management of Quest headsets.
Meta says it will make Meta for Education available more widely this winter, suggesting the public launch could be just a few months away.
University participants have praised the program's ability to engage students, with San Diego State University Senior Director of Instructional Technology Dr. Sean Hauze stating "We’re empowering students to do things that would be out of reach otherwise”.
The program is seen as a tool that’s going to change education and the way of teaching by bringing the world into the classroom, says University of Miami Professor and University XR Initiative Lead Kim Grinfeder.
Houston Community College Reality CoLab Director Rubén Durán states that with their project Virtual Reality for Empathy, members of the community and HCC students come together to role-play and raise awareness on various issues.
Meta for Education is expected to be beneficial in conducting research on impactful methods of teaching and learning and making education more accessible to students, according to the participants from the institutions.
