A Microsoft employee is working on a native SteamVR driver, 'Oasis', to revive Windows MR headsets that stopped working with Windows 11 24H2 update.
The driver will provide direct SteamVR support for Windows MR headsets, potentially making them compatible with Nvidia GPUs with talks ongoing with AMD for compatibility.
Developed by Matthieu Bucchianeri, the driver is a result of deep reverse-engineering efforts, and it is set to be released for free in fall if successful.
The project aims to bring back support for Windows MR headsets, offering a more affordable option for PC VR users, although previous discounts didn't lead to widespread adoption.
