Microsoft promises to bring major performance boosts for ray tracing on PCs with the upcoming release of DirectX Raytracing (DXR) 1.2.The new features in DXR 1.2, Shader Execution Reordering (SER) and Opacity Micromaps (OMMs), are expected to improve ray tracing performance in games.SER reorders the execution of graphics instructions, reducing delays and potentially boosting performance by up to 2x.OMMs simplify the calculation of light effects by mapping transparency levels on objects, which can lead to a performance increase of up to 2.3x.
