Scientists have developed a cleaner, more efficient method to recycle e-waste using microwave technology. The method, called microwave-induced pyrolysis, can break down the plastic insulation on electric cables without damaging the copper wire inside.Microwaves heat the copper wires, causing the PVC insulation to carbonize and expose the copper, ready for reuse. This innovative method not only recovers valuable copper but also recycles byproducts like chlorine and carbon.
