Nasa has dropped the plan to land the first woman and person of color on the moon, in response to directives to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion practices at federal agencies.
The promise was a central part of Nasa's Artemis program, which aimed to return humans to the lunar surface by 2027.
The move by Nasa is in compliance with other federal agencies that removed mentions of DEI programs and initiatives following the Trump administration's second-term inauguration.
Nasa had previously made strides towards diversity and inclusivity, and the Artemis program aimed to establish the first long-term presence on the Moon with commercial and international partners.
