NASA Stennis Teams Install New Production RS-25 Engine for Upcoming Hot Fire

  • NASA marked a key milestone with the installation of RS-25 engine No. E20001 for the upcoming Artemis missions.
  • This new engine, built by L3Harris, is the first of 24 new flight engines being built for Artemis missions.
  • The engine will undergo acceptance testing next month before being used to power the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
  • RS-25 engines fire for about 500 seconds during missions to the Moon to help launch SLS and the Orion spacecraft.
