<ul><li>NASA scientists and engineers tested the Compact Fire Infrared Radiance Spectral Tracker (c-FIRST) during flights over the California wildfires in January 2025.</li><li>c-FIRST, managed and operated by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, gathers thermal infrared images and data to study the impacts of wildfires on ecosystems.</li><li>With the ability to capture the full temperature range across a wide area, c-FIRST provides more accurate understanding of fire behavior and crucial characteristics such as size and temperature.</li><li>The data collected by c-FIRST can be used to estimate the likelihood of fire spread, aid firefighting agencies, and understand the recovery of ecosystems from fire events.</li></ul>
