NASA's EZIE (Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer) mission launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at 11:43 p.m. PDT on March 14 from Vandenberg Space Force Base.
The mission consists of three small satellites that will map the auroral electrojets and study the physics of how Earth interacts with its surrounding space.
Each satellite will individually tune its spacing and fly over the same region 2 to 10 minutes after the former for better understanding of the currents at different scales.
The EZIE mission aims to advance our understanding of Earth's electrojets and space weather, which will have implications for predicting and mitigating its disruptive impacts on society.
