A new NASA space telescope, SPHEREx, has captured its first light by taking stunning images of tens of thousands of galaxies and stars.
The telescope, enclosed with three different detectors, has collected six images, each covering an area 20 times wider than the full moon.
SPHEREx will scan the entire night sky four times and collect data from more than 450 million galaxies, giving scientists key insights into cosmology and the evolution of galaxies.
The wide panorama viewing of SPHEREx will complement the James Webb Space Telescope by identifying regions of interest for further study.
