New EPC inverter brings GaN power to medium-voltage motor drives

  • US-based Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has introduced the EPC9196, a three-phase BLDC motor drive inverter reference design powered by the EPC2304 eGaN FET.
  • The EPC9196 is designed for 96-150 V battery-powered motor drive applications, such as steering systems in AGVs, traction motors in compact autonomous vehicles, and precision motor joints in robotics.
  • The EPC2304 eGaN FET, with its high performance in compact form factors, allows the EPC9196 to deliver up to 35 Apk phase current at switching frequencies up to 100 kHz, resulting in low switching losses and a smooth motor drive profile even at high speeds.
  • The EPC9196 features a wide input voltage range, integrated components, compatibility with various motor drive controller platforms, and has been validated for real-world applications, offering engineers in robotics, AGVs, and compact EVs a GaN-powered solution.
