Chinese EV manufacturer NIO collaborates with the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE (DKE) to draft a new industry standard for battery swapping systems.
The DIN EN IEC 62840 series of standards aims to ensure the reliability, interoperability, and safety of battery swapping technology in the German market.
The new standard contains general safety requirements for battery exchange systems and stations for EVs, standardizing various functions of a battery exchange station including exchange, storage, charging, and cooling.
NIO, with its NIO Power offering, aims to expand the charging infrastructure in Germany and Europe utilizing its battery-as-a-service (BaaS), NIO Power Swap, NIO Charging Map, and NIO Power Home offerings.
