The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has discovered the most distant galaxy observed so far, named MoM-z14, just 280 million years after the Big Bang.
MoM-z14 is compact, emitting a large amount of light in a small space, about 240 light-years across, similar in mass to the Small Magellanic Cloud.
The galaxy was observed during a period of rapid star formation and contains high levels of nitrogen relative to carbon, resembling ancient globular clusters in the Milky Way.
JWST continues to surprise scientists by finding bright, ancient galaxies challenging previous theories about the universe's early stages. Researchers are excited about the possibility of more discoveries with upcoming telescopes like the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.
