Review: The MG Cyberster Is An Electric Drop-Top Cruiser, Not A Sports Car

  • The MG Cyberster is a two-seater electric roadster that’s currently on sale in Europe and in other international markets.
  • It’s powered by either an all-wheel-drive, dual-motor 503-horsepower GT, or rear-wheel-drive single-motor 335-hp Trophy, each boasting a 77kWh (74.4kWh usable) battery to deliver a WLTP range of 276 or 316 miles, respectively.
  • The car boasts of an 8.8 cubic-foot trunk and the cabin has enough storage. It is tech-heavy and has screens: three in front of the driver and one in the center console.
  • Every sports car needs to have some theatre about it and the Cyberster’s party piece is fancy doors that open upwards.
  • Inside you’ll find big, comfy seats, and a spacious cabin.
  • Twisty roads reveal one of the Cyberster’s weaknesses, though. It’s heavy, and anything other than mirror smooth roads upset it enough that it stops being fun and starts being a bit ‘cling-on-and-see-what-happens.’
  • Being a modern car, there are touch screens and they can be fiddly.
  • The MG Cyberster is a cruiser, not a sports car.
  • It’s perfect for gently gliding along at a steady pace, taking the world in as you go.
  • It’s a start for the ‘affordable’ EV sports car category, and it’s a damn good one. Just take it easy out there.
