The saucer-like Winnebago-2 (W-2) space capsule, developed by Varda Space Industries, has successfully landed in the Australian outback, making it the first commercial spacecraft to land in Australia.
W-2 was launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on January 14 as part of the Transporter-12 rideshare mission and spent 45 days in orbit before returning to Earth.
The space capsule carried various technologies onboard, including Varda's expanded pharmaceutical reactor, a heatshield developed with NASA, and a spectrometer provided by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.
The successful landing of W-2 is a significant milestone for the Australian space sector and marks the beginning of a new era of space capabilities for the nation.
