Scientists have created the most detailed 3D map of cosmic dust, improving our understanding of its effects on what we see in space. The map, created by Xiangyu Zhang and Gregory Green, analyzed data from the ESA's Gaia mission and the LAMOST survey in China.Using AI techniques, their neural network mapped the 3D structure of dust across the Milky Way.The map revealed unexpected properties of interstellar dust clouds and may help in the study of planet formation and the origins of life.
