Curiosity rover is preparing for a drill campaign to collect a sample from a boxwork-forming geologic unit on Mars.
The team on Earth decided to collect a drill sample after close-up measurements showed changes in the rocks, but mineralogy cannot be determined from those data alone.
The rover was looking for a drillable spot, but rocks in the current location were too fractured or had too much debris, requiring the rover to move before proceeding with the drill preload test.
Various measurements and imaging activities were planned, including Dust removal, APXS, LIBS, MAHLI, ChemCam remote imaging mosaic, Mastcam imaging, and recording of the modern Mars environment.
