Summer in the UK and similar northern latitudes is the best time to observe the zodiacal constellation Scorpius with the star Antares shining blood-red above the southern horizon.
The moon will help locate Antares, which will stand out with its sanguine hues contrasting the silver light of the moon.
Antares, the 15th brightest star in the night sky, is located about 550 light years from Earth, is 15 times more massive than the sun, 680 times larger, and emits nearly 76,000 times more energy.
In the southern hemisphere, Antares and Scorpius will be high in the eastern sky, with the moon and Antares appearing side by side from Sydney on 10 June.
