A study based on a survey of over 45,000 Norwegian students finds a correlation between increased screen time before bed and higher risk of insomnia and sleep loss.
Each additional hour spent looking at a screen in bed is associated with a 63% rise in insomnia risk and a 24-minute reduction in sleep duration.
The study does not establish a causal relationship between screen time and poorer sleep quality and suggests that the type of screen activity is less significant than the overall time spent using screens.
Experts recommend avoiding digital devices before bedtime, establishing a consistent sleep schedule, and engaging in relaxing activities to improve sleep quality.
