Asia-Pacific (APAC) is witnessing a significant increase in system intrusion attacks, which have become the dominant threat pattern in the region according to data from the 2025 Data Breach Investigations Report by Verizon Business.
System intrusion attacks in APAC are rising to 83% of all breaches as cybercriminals employ more sophisticated methods to gain sustained access into organizational systems, allowing for various malicious activities like deploying ransomware, data theft, and maintaining covert access.
In contrast, social engineering attacks are declining in prevalence, dropping to 20% of breaches in 2024, while basic web application attacks have also decreased. This trend indicates improved security measures and awareness among organizations in APAC.
Malware remains the primary tactic in attacks, with ransomware accounting for 51% of breaches in 2024. Stolen credentials are also widely used in APAC breaches, showing a trend towards more sophisticated and high-impact methods by cybercriminals.
