Federal safety investigators are questioning Tesla about how its robotaxis will handle poor weather conditions.
The NHTSA wants clarification on whether Tesla's robotaxis will be classified as Level 2 or Level 3 on the SAE's Driving Automation chart.
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system is currently categorized as Level 2, raising concerns about its autonomous capabilities.
The NHTSA has also inquired about Tesla's hardware and software systems for the robotaxi service, monitoring of disengagements, and handling of emergency situations.
