Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill into law that requires Apple and Google app stores to enforce age verification measures for users downloading apps.
Utah previously passed a similar law, but Texas' legislation has a larger impact due to its significantly larger population.
At least eight other US states have introduced bills related to age verification in app stores, while a federal bill called the Kids Online Safety Act has also been proposed.
The Texas law mandates Apple and Google to verify users' ages and obtain parental consent for minors to download apps or make in-app purchases for users under 18 from January 1, 2023.
