Mercedes has revealed photos of a camouflaged GLC EV prototype, set to be the second new Mercedes EV with an ICE variant on the same platform.The GLC EV will be fully unveiled later this year as part of Mercedes' shift towards electric versions of its ICE models.Abandoning the separate EV lineup, Mercedes is transitioning to electric versions of existing models like the CLA and upcoming GLC EV.The GLC EV, underpinned by the MB.EA platform, is set to replace the EQC with potential naming like GLC with EQ Technology.Utilizing different chemistries and battery pack sizes, the GLC EV is expected to have a large battery pack with a 404-mile WLTP range.The new GLC EV is anticipated to support 800-volt charging for improved powertrain efficiency and faster charging, adding 162 miles in 10 minutes.Featuring a front trunk and enhanced trunk space, the GLC EV aims to address practicality issues faced by previous EQ models.The interior of the GLC EV will include Mercedes' new AI-powered MB.OS operating system, improving the user experience.Expected to debut in 2025, the GLC EV will be manufactured in Germany and China, with the possibility of U.S. production depending on tariffs.Mercedes' move towards electric models on shared platforms raises questions about potential compromises in packaging compared to bespoke EVs.
