The U.S.-spec Mercedes-Benz CLA EV will be compatible with both 800V and 400V fast chargers, allowing it to use the vast majority of DC fast chargers, including Tesla Superchargers.
Initially, the company stated that the CLA EV would be restricted to 800V for optimal charging speeds, but now it will come with a 400V converter to enable compatibility with various chargers.
The CLA electric sedan can charge at up to 320 kW from an 800V source, adding around 202 miles in 10 minutes. With a 400V source, charging speeds will likely be slower.
Mercedes-Benz's decision to include a 400V converter will allow CLA EV owners to access over 100,000 DC fast chargers in the U.S., even though maximum charging speeds may not be achievable on all chargers.
