In 1585, English settlers established a colony on Roanoke Island, America's first English settlement in the New World.
A second group led by John White arrived in 1587 to make Roanoke their new home, including men, women, and children like Virginia Dare, the first English baby born in America.
When John White returned in 1590 after going back to England for supplies, he found the entire colony missing, with all 115 people, including his family and friends, gone without a trace.
