Donald Trump is pushing major smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung to move their production for the U.S. market back home and warned of a 25% import tariff if they don’t comply.
Apple has shifted some iPhone production to India, but about 90% are still made in China, while Samsung no longer produces phones in China and makes them in South Korea, Vietnam, India, and Brazil.
Experts believe Trump's demand is unrealistic, as moving Apple's supply chain to the U.S. would take years and could significantly increase iPhone prices due to higher production costs.
If the 25% tariff is imposed, new iPhones prices could rise, potentially impacting customers, as the U.S. lacks the infrastructure and workforce to support a large-scale smartphone industry.
