Uzbekistan-based mobile operator Ucell has enabled its customers in the country to obtain new phone numbers and activate eSIMs via the company's mobile app.
Users can also check available plans, top up their account and alter SIM settings by smartphone. The app is available on iOS and Android.
Consumers will need to use payment cards for the eSIM activation transaction. At present, the bank-linked payment cards accepted are UzCard and Humo.
Customers use a QR code sent by the firm to activate the eSIM, and can then choose mobile data plans.
The option to switch SIM cards is available if users switch mobile devices, though Ucell will deactivate users' IMEI number after 30 days if registration hasn't been completed.
To obtain self-registration, the buyer has to be a citizen of Uzbekistan, and there is an automated process that explains the various steps to take to start the registration.
Personal identification is via Ucell's MyID services, enabling users to fill in details online or by scanning their passport or ID card.
According to UCell's website, the mobile app enables customers to check plan details and current balances, add widgets, and view all past charges.
Ucell introduced eSIMS to customers in August 2022, making it the third Uzbek mobile operator to deploy the technology.
As for devices compatible with the eSIM, the website lists various Apple, Samsung, Google and Huawei products in addition to some smartphones from Xiaomi, Oppo and Honor.
