United Airlines has integrated Apple’s Share Item Location feature for its AirTag tracking system into its mobile app to improve customer service.
United Airlines passengers can now travel with an AirTag or Find My network accessory to help locate their luggage if it is mishandled.
This new digital innovation is intended to enhance efficiency, infrastructure and technology investments to make travel easier and bag handling more seamless, especially when plans go awry.
United offers the ability to track bags directly in the app, but Apple’s new Share Item Location feature will give United customers an additional way to access to their bag’s precise location.
If a bag doesn’t arrive at its final destination, passengers can file a delayed baggage report in the United app, and add a Share Item Location link.
The location of the item can be viewed on an interactive map, which will update when a new location is available. All shared locations will be disabled as soon as a customer is reunited with their bag and will automatically expire after seven days.
To maintain autonomy and privacy, the entire process is end-to-end encrypted and anonymous.
United also introduced game-changing policies for customers such as TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID and automatic rebooking assistance specifically for flight disruptions.
The airline is committed to transparency and self-service initiatives that separate it from other carriers.
Apple’s Find My Share Item Location feature is available on iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 or macOS 15.2.
