The US has implemented a blacklisting of 50 Chinese companies, in the first such effort by the Trump administration to curtail China in the artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced computing arena.
The US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has added a total of 80 entities to the Entity List for activities contrary to US national security and foreign policy.
The additions to the Entity List include entities engaged in the development of advanced AI, supercomputers, high-performance AI chips, and unsafeguarded nuclear activities.
The blacklisting comes amid rising tensions between the US and China, with the Trump administration implementing export restrictions and China condemning the action.
