Uber and Waymo have launched their robotaxi service in Atlanta, allowing Uber riders to be matched with Waymo autonomous vehicles through the Uber app.
The service covers 65 square miles in Atlanta, offering rides in fully autonomous all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles at no extra cost.
Waymo is currently the leading player in the US robotaxi landscape and has expanded its services to cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Austin.
Last week, Waymo applied for testing permits in New York City and has conducted over 10 million trips so far, with weekly trips exceeding 250,000.
Uber riders in Atlanta can opt for a Waymo AV ride when requesting UberX, Comfort, or Comfort Electric, enabling seamless interactions through the Uber app.
Users can unlock the Waymo vehicle doors, open the trunk, and start the trip entirely from the Uber app, with 24/7 assistance available.
Elon Musk's Tesla also began offering a limited robotaxi service, while Waymo expands its reach with future plans in cities like Miami and Washington, DC.
