'When McKinsey rejected me, I was heartbroken,' shares IIT-IIM graduate from Bengaluru

  • Sandipan Bala, an IIT Bombay and IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, recently shared his emotional journey of facing rejection from McKinsey, a global management consultant.
  • "McKinsey was the company that everybody in IIM wanted to work with," Bala revealed. "That's why when they rejected me... I was heartbroken. I thought I wasn’t good enough." Recollecting his days at IIM, he expressed his intense desire to secure an internship with McKinsey, considering it the pinnacle of success.
  • "Being an academically bright student, rejection was new to me," he confessed. However, with unwavering support from family and friends, Bala embraced an alternative opportunity in finance, ultimately finding success and fulfillment in his career journey.
