Windows 11 has closed in on Windows 10 in global market share, reaching 47.8% compared to Windows 10's 48.8% according to StatCounter's June 2025 data.
Windows 11 started slow due to high hardware requirements and lack of significant user-facing changes, leading to delayed adoption in the first two years.
However, Windows 11 showed a surge in market share in 2025 with noticeable growth in March and June, narrowing the gap between it and Windows 10.
With Microsoft ending Windows 10 support in October 2025, Windows 11 is expected to ultimately surpass Windows 10 as users transition and with encouraging signs from Microsoft.
