Proposals are being developed in the European Union (EU) that could require Apple to make its AirDrop and AirPlay features accessible on Android devices.
The changes under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) would require Apple to make its exclusive features available to other developers and smartphone manufacturers.
EU has actively sought to limit Apple’s control over its smartphone ecosystem through the DMA, including requirements for third-party app stores and choice of default apps.
The accessibility of AirDrop and AirPlay on Android would be a win for consumers, regardless of their smartphone type, if security features are maintained.
