- Fallout 4 has a huge variety of approaches a player can take when wending their way through the Commonwealth. Whichever approach you take, you’ll need the right armor for the job. The three best armor sets in Fallout 4 are a Nuka-Girl Space Suit, the X-01 Power Armor, and a combo of Mantis Armor and Wastelander Armor. Nuka-Girl Space Suit is the best armor for exploration in Fallout 4, as it gives the player the ability to breathe underwater and has a high radiation resistance. For combat, X-01 Power Armor is the best choice, as it has the best damage resistance stats in the game. The Mantis Armor and Wastelander Armor combo is best for early-game.
- The Nuka-Girl Space Suit grants the player +1 Charisma, and has a Damage Resistance of 5, Energy Resistance of 45, Radiation Resistance of 35, and weighs 8 pound. It can be found in the Nuka-World expansion area.
- The X-01 Power Armor is high-level power armor with a mass bonus to damage resistance, carry capacity, and strength. When wearing all six pieces of the armor, a player has a total damage resistance of up to 1820. It can be quite challenging to get but is worth the effort.
- The Mantis Armor has a Damage Resistance of 15 and Energy Resistance of 23, and its left arm provides a 10% chance to disarm attacker on hit. The Wastelander Armor has a Damage Resistance of 13, and Energy Resistance of 22, and a BioCommMesh mod.
- For Stealth, there isn’t a single best armor set in Fallout 4. It's more about knowing what you should look out for to build your own armor set for sneaking around, which must be lightweight to be hard to detect.
- The lighter your armor, the harder you are to detect. Ultra Light armor mods require Armorer 3 and make your gear even lighter. Chameleon is a Legendary armor mod that makes you invisible. Having multiple chameleon-modded items stacks makes you even harder to detect. This mod is available on two Synth chest pieces.
