5 Reasons to Wait for Next Year's MacBook Pro

  • According to rumors, Apple could overhaul the MacBook Pro in 2026 with some significant changes, including an OLED display and a thinner, lighter design.
  • Apple's adoption of notebook-optimized OLED display panels could lead to a thinner MacBook Pro design and increased brightness, higher contrast ratio, and more.
  • The MacBook Pro is expected to reintroduce a punch-hole camera in 2026 replacing the notch with an immersive Full Screen Display design, similar to other Macs.
  • Apple plans to develop a custom-built 5G chip and bring cellular connectivity to the Mac lineup for the first time. This could tease a potential for a cellular MacBook Pro being released soon.
  • The MacBook Pro is also expected to adopt a completely new packaging process with the M6 chip series adopting WMCM to integrate multiple chips into the same package, allowing for the development of more complex chipsets for increased performance.
  • According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, a true overhaul for the MacBook Pro won't arrive until 2026. Testimony to this would be the upcoming M5 chips, which are expected to bring only a small performance boost.
  • Apple is also rumored to develop the thinnest MacBook possible without compromising on battery life or major new features.
  • Rumors suggest that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will have a punch-hole camera at the top of the display for uninterrupted and cohesive design. An OLED Full Screen Display is also highly expected.
  • The introduction of cellular connectivity through the custom-built 5G chip to the MacBook Pro is one of the most significant updates anticipated for the 2026 MacBook Pro, creating prospects for having a cellular MacBook Pro in the following release.
  • Apple's 2026 MacBook Pro series could be available with an M6 series chip, where they may use the 2nm process and WMCM packaging to make even more powerful versions of its custom processor.
