Homeworld 3’s performance is uneven, but can be spared the worst of spacefight slowdown
- Homeworld 3's minimum system requirements don't make too many demands of your hardware, meaning most players can easily access it.
- During battles, however, performance can start to take a dive but can be improved through the graphics settings menu.
- This includes using upscalers such as Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR 2, which can drastically improve performance, although can be inconsistent.
- Lowering visual settings, selectively, also improves performance. This includes settings such as the visual effect quality which can provide a significant speed boost on low-end systems.
- Feedback on many of the individual visual options are included in the article, such as screen space reflection quality which is recommended to be left on high, and view distance quality which can be left on epic.
- Summarizing all the recommendations, it's suggested to use FSR 2 or DLSS (if supported), with a resolution scale set to Quality and a few high-impact settings lowered to low (such as post-processing quality, shadow quality, and visual effect quality).
- The GTX 1060 managed 65fps in the benchmark tool with these settings, as opposed to the average of 30fps on Epic, native rendering.
- While Homeworld 3 is not a technical masterpiece, it's not beyond help and the player can make a significant difference to the speed of the game with just a few clicks.
- Overall, the game is good, however, its performance can be inconsistent during heavy battles.
- The graphics settings can significantly improve the experience, though it may require some tweaking to find the best performance-to-aesthetics balance for each individual player's system.
