Scientists develop high-performance memory devices that dissolve in water
- Scientists at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) have developed a high-tech, biodegradable memory device that dissolves in water within days, addressing the challenge of electronic waste.
- The researchers created a polymer called PCL-TEMPO, blending a biodegradable polymer with an organic molecule to achieve high-performance data storage in a completely biodegradable system.
- The memory device showed exceptional performance, retaining data reliably over one million cycles and surviving 250 cycles of writing and erasing data, all while dissolving in water at room temperature without leaving harmful residue.
- The innovative device opens possibilities for sustainable electronics, with applications in wearable medical devices that could dissolve harmlessly inside the body, reducing the need for additional surgeries and contributing to global sustainability efforts.
