Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks have been shut down
- Microsoft has shut down three ZeniMax studios that made games such as Prey, The Evil Within and Mighty Doom.
- Arkane Austin will close, but some of its staff will join other studios to work on titles across Bethesda.
- The studio was responsible for Redfall, a game that has now been axed.
- The cancellation of Redfall means the $100 Bite Back edition of the game has been axed, too.
- Players who spent the $100 will be able to claim partial refunds for the game's Hero DLC through a website set up by the company.
- Tango Gameworks, creator of Hi-Fi Rush, and Alpha Dog Studios will also close.
- Mighty Doom will shut down on 7 August, although Hi-Fi Rush will remain available.
- Microsoft-owned ZeniMax said a small number of roles would be cut across select Bethesda publishing and corporate teams.
- In total, around 9,400 game workers had been fired before the latest closures, a rate likely to outstrip last year's annual layoff records.
- The latest staffing changes followed Microsoft's billion-dollar purchase of Zenimax Media, Bethesda's parent company, and its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
