Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27764 (Canary Channel)

  • Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27764 to the Canary Channel.
  • Improvements have been made to the start menu where jump lists will be shown for apps pinned to the start menu, dynamic lighting settings page now has forward, backward, outward and inward direction options to the wave effect and Gradient effect has forward direction option.
  • An update has been made for input, where the IME toolbar will be hidden when apps are in full-screen mode and improvements have been made to Narrator scan mode.
  • Speech-to-text and text-to-speech experience on Windows have been improved, and a message will be shown to users of Narrator, live captions, live translations and voice typing to update their language files manually.
  • Fixes have been made such as addressing an issue where File Explorer might hang when browsing a folder with lots of media in it, and an issue where some HDDs were being incorrectly listed as SSD on the performance page.
  • Known issues include losing Windows Hello pin and biometrics to sign into your PC with error 0xd0000225 and error message 'Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available' if joining the Canary Channel on a new Co-pilot+ PC from the Dev Channel.
  • The builds released to the Canary Channel represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows.
  • Some features and experiences included in these builds may never get released beyond Windows Insiders.
  • Insiders can’t switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without doing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical setup requirements.
  • The desktop watermark shown at the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

  • Cryptic gets sold off for scrap, which is a real loss to the industry.
  • 2024 saw rampant, horrid, unrelenting layoffs across the MMO industry, which seems to have shocked insiders.
  • Stars Reach, the long-in-the-works game from Raph Koster, was finally unveiled as a giant potential ‘hey, we’re entering new territory’ signpost.
  • Concord, the Sony hero shooter, folded almost instantly, a baffling product misfire.
  • Seeing Gigantic come back after its original short run was a pretty big shocker.
  • Palia, which came out to a small splash, was saved by Daybreak, which few would have predicted.
  • ArcheAge sunsetted despite being a reliable mid-tier performer, and its sequel is going in weird directions.
  • Microsoft finally got Final Fantasy XIV only to make it arbitrarily way more expensive on the console, blowing it.
  • Jagex was sold for the fourth time in eight years, creating questions about what’s going on.

LinkedIn wants to have its TikTok era

  • LinkedIn has been introducing a TikTok-like vertical video feed, where creators share career advice, news, and more. Since the spring, most LinkedIn users now have access to it.
  • Creators say that their engagement on the platform has just exploded since they started posting videos.
  • Engagement and impressions of video posts are found to be much more than on text or photo posts. Video posts get 1.4 times as much engagement on LinkedIn compared to other posts.
  • This could be a key for the platform to cement itself as a core platform for creators, unlock more ad revenue, and keep people checking their feeds regularly.
  • LinkedIn is encouraging creators to post 'short', 'snappy' and 'actionable' videos and to avoid creating content that feels 'too sales-y'. The videos should be kept to under two minutes.
  • The platform has not yet introduced a monetization program directly for creators, although some creators have been working on LinkedIn-focused brand deals and reaching out to sponsors.
  • Three top platforms of makers, including YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram are all heavily focused on video. Hence, LinkedIn also moving towards video indicates that they are taking content creators very seriously.
