Netflix's Spellbound really tugged at my heartstrings, and its touching message will hit kids and parents alike

  • Netflix's Spellbound is an animated adventure movie that has a heartwarming message that will touch the hearts of both children and parents alike. It can help children to understand and cope with divorce in a positive way.
  • Spellbound is a movie that explores deep emotional themes and metaphors about separation, grief, and family that unfolds nicely without surprising anyone.
  • The movie follows the story of Princess Ellian, who tries to break a spell that turned her parents into monsters. The plot sounds like your average children's fantasy, but it has a much deeper meaning towards the end.
  • 15-year-old Ellian has been forced to become a caregiver to her own parents, who have become rambunctious monsters causing havoc in the castle. She also has to assume other adult responsibilities, like ruling the kingdom alone with the guidance of Ministers Bolinar and Nazara Prone.
  • After summoning two magical Oracles for help, they tell her that the King and Queen have lost their light and that she must venture into the Dark Forest to the Lake of Light to retrieve it.
  • Spellbound is a musical delight that has a bright, imaginative world and weird and wonderful creatures that reminded me of my favourite Disney story Tangled.
  • The movie offers a positive mindset to help children explore their emotions and cope with divorce's changes that feel like the world is ending.
  • Ellian's parents decide to separate once they realise the detriment of their marital issues on their daughter, and the metaphor is a clever way to demonstrate how destructive and transformative a broken relationship can be on a family.
  • Ellian is sent into a spiral of anger, despair, and resentment that's heartbreaking to watch. But, with endless reassurance, comfort, and love, Ellian comes to terms with her parents' divorce and goes back to being the happy girl she was before.
  • Spellbound will make you shed a tear or two, even if you haven't experienced a life-changing event like this. It is available to stream on Netflix from November 22.

  • It has diversified into sports and comedy and even dipped its toe into video game development.
