  • Netflix, Amazon, and other major firms reject TRAI's proposal to regulate content delivery networks (CDNs) in India.
  • CDNs are crucial for online content delivery and caching, but streaming giants contend that they are not telecom carriers and should not be governed by TRAI's regulations.
  • Opposition from international trade associations and concerns about hindering investment and innovation in India's digital economy support the resistance against regulatory frameworks on CDNs.
  • The debate highlights the need for clarity in governing digital services and the balance between regulation and innovation for growth in India's tech ecosystem.

3 underrated Netflix movies you should watch this weekend (December 20-22)

  • If you’re craving a respite from all the shopping and holiday prepping, then Netflix has you covered. The streamer has plenty of movies to watch, and the following three are worth your time and attention.
  • The Dead Don’t Die (2019) - In rural Centerville, USA, two cops, Cliff (Murray) and Ronnie (Driver) witness the undead rising from the grave and attacking the town’s residents. The Dead Don’t Die isn’t your typical zombie movie, so be prepared for characters breaking the fourth wall, non-sequiturs left, and right.
  • Non-Stop (2014) - It’s set on a plane (JCS sure does like his planes) and casts Neeson as U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks. Neeson is at the top of his action game here, and his collaborations with Collet-Serra are some of the best the genre has to offer.
  • Carol (2015) -It opens near Christmas Eve in 1952, and people are rushing to get some last-minute presents. And so begins a complex love affair between the two women, one that just wasn’t publicly accepted back then. But what makes Carol so fascinating to watch is while it acknowledges the problems that arise from such a relationship, it’s not downbeat at all.

Ubisoft's New Game Has Rayman! And Blood Dragon! And NFTs!

  • Ubisoft's new game, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., is a top-down shooter featuring Blood Dragon, Rayman, and Assassin's Creed with perks related to these franchises and commentary from Rayman. However, the game requires an NFT in the form of a Niji Warrior card, purchased through the game's website, Eden Online, or a third-party site. Though the game is listed as released on Ubisoft's site and store, the mint is part of an Early Access offer for Niji Warrior holders. The cheapest card costs $12.06, with the most expensive priced at $162,975.50. The game can't be played without the card, which requires a wallet and cryptocurrency.
  • The game has not been shown much outside of a few cartoon sequences, and Ubisoft has not uploaded any trailers for it to its YouTube channel. Additionally, the game is not mentioned on Ubisoft's social media, and only an Eden Online sockpuppet account mentions it. Criticisms of the game from available footage liken it to a mobile game, but this cannot be verified. A confirmed way to access the game without NFT ownership is not yet established, and Ubisoft has not commented on the lack of explicit payment information on its site.

6 of the best and 6 of the worst Christmas movies on Netflix, according to critics

  • As Norway's worst postal student, Jesper (Jason Schwartzman) is exiled to Smeerensburg and instructed to deliver 6,000 letters within a year. Through befriending a carpenter named Klaus (J.K. Simmons) and a teacher named Alva (Rashida Jones), Jesper is able to bring joy back to the town.
  • In this magical musical, toymaker Jeronicus Jangle (Forest Whitaker) teams up with his granddaughter Journey (Madalen Mills) to recover an invention stolen from him long ago and restore his legacy.
  • Let It Snow" is a holiday rom-com about a group of young people in a small town in Illinois who are forced together by a snowstorm.
  • The 1954 musical follows two former soldiers-turned-performers as they meet a beautiful sister singing duo. The two groups must work together to save the lodge owned by the soldiers' former commander.
  • Lacey Chabert stars as Kathy, a grieving widow who accidentally brings a snowman to life with a magic scarf. When she takes the responsibility of looking after the living snowman (Dustin Milligan), she gains a new perspective on life.
  • This is the closest thing to 'Die Hard' on Netflix's catalog. A fun, electrifying thriller set on Christmas Eve, where one man takes on a team of highly trained terrorists.
  • While the first "Princess Switch" was received reasonably well, the sequels — "The Princess Switch: Switched Again" and "The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star" — overdid it with the switching.
  • Critics said the sequel was not as funny or charming as the original "Bad Moms." "A Bad Moms Christmas" is fun to watch once, but it won't become a Christmas classic.
  • Lindsay Lohan's Netflix holiday movies are divisive: you either love how bad they are or are completely bored by them. Critics said "Our Little Secret" is better than Lohan's other two movies but still formulaic, and the two lead stars have poor chemistry.
  • Critics were not enthused by this film, with most saying that the story was poor and did not make much sense.

MrBeast And Amazon Prime's Beast Games Feels Flat And Unimportant

  • MrBeast and Amazon Prime's Beast Games has debuted with the first two episodes and a reportedly $100mn deal, featuring Squid Game inspired gameplay with 1000 players competing for a $5mn prize.
  • However, the show despite the hype, seems flat, obnoxious, and entirely derivative, with nothing special that makes it feel significant.
  • Jimmy Donaldson, MrBeast is good at what he does, making sure that his videos work the algorithm like a savant which includes entertaining unchallenging content and relentless editing.
  • MrBeast's videos have usually featured competitive events, which seems to be the cornerstone of the game show as well, but this time the formula is not working.
  • Many of the dilemmas presented in the game show, especially those that whittle down the numbers, can be compelling yet, speaking of this substantial expense, the game show felt cheap as it was less high in quality and production.
  • One of the major issues with the show is that it lacked MrBeast and had a low-scale presentation as the whole show felt like any other reality TV competition with low-impact personalities.
  • As Amazon launched the show, MrBeast's YouTube Channel uploaded a 24-minute video that showed his means of reducing the number of players to create a gateway for the YouTube audience,
  • While the show may have an initial audience draw due to his name, it seems it will fail to keep its appeal with its watered-down and flattened format.
  • Beast Games feels small, unimportant and uneventful compared to the hype around its debut, lacking the impact, and importance that it should have had.
  • So, it is fine, but it could have been so much better.
