A malware scam is targeting Minecraft mod users to steal their login details, browser credentials, Steam, and Discord account information.
The Stargazers Ghost Network is using Minecraft mods to infect users' computers with infostealers.
Check Point Research reported on the campaign by the Stargazers Ghost Network, a distribution-as-a-service operation active on GitHub since last year.
Since March, malicious GitHub repositories have been targeting Minecraft players with an undetected Java downloader.
The Java downloader is disguised as known Minecraft cheat and automation tools, making it highly targeted and undetected by antivirus engines.
The malware's technical details are broken down in the CPR report, explaining the code functionality.
Users are advised to download mods only from reputable sources and avoid downloading from GitHub to stay safe.
