Google just announced 10 huge updates for your Android phone

  • Google has announced several new updates for Android phones including Google Wallet upgrades, anti-theft safeguards, call and network safety features and keeping one-time passwords safe. Google Wallet has added a feature for users in the US to scan passes such as library cards, insurance slips and gym membership cards to create a digital version. Android 15 features include a new system called Cellular Cypher Transparency as well as support for pinning the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and dynamic panes for resizing an app’s UI. Additionally, Google is enhancing app safety with fraud prevention measures.
  • The Restricted Settings system will ask users for an extra layer of approval for permissions on apps installed outside of the Google Play Store. Anti-theft safeguards will use AI to automatically detect any sudden movement such as running away or racing ahead with a stolen phone, and lock it so the thief cannot get to personal information. Android 15 will put security controls behind a password lock to ensure that critical safety features like Find My are only disabled by the original owner. Android lists for this public release has yet to be confirmed.
  • Google is using AI to detect apps that could be fraudulent or phishing and will check their activity and device permission in real-time, sending a warning if necessary. Private Space is a new feature that offers an "invisible vault" for apps that require a higher level of security, which will only be available after an Android 15 update. Google will no longer show one-time passwords in notifications. The company has introduced a new system, the Cellular Cypher Transparency, for checking network encryption status.
  • For at-risk groups such as journalists or activists, the company will alert them if a surveillance tool or spyware is recording their location coordinates using the device's unique hardware identification number. The company will release Android 15's public release later this year, and has opened Android beta testing to many brands including OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, Honor and Nothing. Health Connect's new features include support for training plans and skin temperature data types.
