Ghostbusting With Simulation: Solving Engineering Challenges In Automotive Radar Development

  • Carmakers are tackling the challenge of achieving a level of perception that matches that of a human driver with advanced camera, radar, and lidar sensing technologies, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Ansys helps Continental AG find a quick solution to ghosting problems that affect automotive radar and compromise autonomous function.
  • Ansys HFSS high-frequency electromagnetic simulation software is used to overcome these radar issues by identifying the location or root cause of these reflections, then determine the appropriate amount of absorber material needed to eliminate any unwanted signals.
  • The team must optimize various elements of these designs with AFS software to reduce any manual work, including component prototyping and measurement.
  • Various sensors and electronics in a vehicle can communicate with each other, creating electromagnetic interference, potentially hampering radar performance. Ansys ensures Continental considers more dynamic scenarios with its AVxcelerate Sensors autonomous sensor simulation software.
  • Ansys-powered toolchain enables quick detection and resolution of perception challenges for customers in a high-performance computing environment faster.
  • Running HFSS software on the cloud scaled well enables engineers at Continental to run large simulations faster and accurately.
  • Ansys toolchain for several hundred product lines across several projects is expected to save automotive manufacturers in vehicle testing costs. The toolchain can also be further monetized as a simulation work product to advance radar solutions.

2025 Toyota Tundra review

  • The Toyota Tundra, a large pickup truck, is now officially available for purchase in Australia, however, it costs more than most of its Australian-converted U.S.-built rivals and it is one of its biggest challenges in the Australian market.
  • The Toyota Tundra has a spacious cabin with a huge touchscreen, however, it does not have in-built sat nav and the lack of sat nav might put off some customers. There are also some button placement and passenger vs. driver side home bar issues that may pose some inconvenience.
  • It has a twin-turbo-petrol V6 engine with an electric motor and battery pack as part of the drivetrain that should help in fuel efficiency, but it used 13.8 litres per 100km for city driving and an even more surprising 23.8 litres per 100km while towing.
  • The engine is a corker of a thing, with an immense amount of torque to make urgent acceleration feel effortless, and urban humdrum driving delightful. Add to that its mostly comfortable and composed chassis, 3700mm wheelbase that requires 15 metres to do a turnaround, and broad feel on the blacktop as you approach highway pace and corner with confidence.
  • It handles itself depending on the situations, with no frustrating safety technologies, but the mirrors have a tendency to be buffered by wind at highway speed, and the suspension could be a little rough over country and unsealed roads at times.
  • Available in just one trim level for $155,990 the Tundra is the most expensive compared to its rivals and it has no current rating for safety from ANCAP or Euro NCAP.
  • Toyota backs its models in Australia with a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty and the Tundra has a capped-price servicing of $450 per service during the five-year period it costs $900 per year just to run it before fuel costs.
  • In conclusion, the Toyota Tundra may have some challenges in convincing big truck buyers in the Australian market to choose it but it has many benefits such as being a reliable and comfortable truck to drive.
  • The towing capacity of 4500 kg and the spacious cabin also offer practicality. However, the lack of proper specifications and pricing do pose some difficulties and may not be worth the extra money for some.
  • Overall, the Toyota Tundra can be a great fit for customers for whom the badge on the grille could be all the convincing they require.
