- Prior to SmarterDx, CEO Dr Michael Gao was a hospitalist at NewYork-Presbyterian, where he identified missed revenue opportunities, leading to his concept of developing a clinical AI system that reconciled clinical and billing revenues.
- SmarterDx count 15 hospitals across the US as customers, however, only a fraction of hospitals have the company's clinical AI platform. The company plans to use the newly-raised funds to improve and expand their platform.
- SmarterDx employ a contingency-based model, where hospitals only pay a set rate for the findings their CDI team approves, leading the company’s growth as it minimises the financial risk for their customers.
- The AI implementation was additive to CDI teams’ existing technology, helping hospitals generate accurate and complete receipts, and capture millions of dollars in missed revenue.
- SmarterDx's CEO recommends start-ups stay lean during product market fits, following his experience of bootstrapping in the pre-investment stages.
- SmarterDx secured $50m in Series B funding, bringing the company’s total funding raised to $71m.
- SmarterDx's proprietary clinical AI is developed in-house by physicians and data scientists with the aim of helping hospitals achieve 100% revenue integrity, safeguarding millions in revenue leakage and accurately representing care quality.
