Polestar 5: Everything We Know
- The Polestar 5 is a performance-oriented electric vehicle set to be released soon by electric vehicle (EV) brand Polestar, created as a spinoff from Volvo Cars.
- It is a four-door fastback sports sedan that debuted as the Polestar Precept concept at the 2020 Geneva Auto Show, with production confirmed by Polestar in 2022.
- The Polestar 5 features a sleek, smooth, and seemingly highly aerodynamic surface with a long and low-slung appearance and no rear window. The cabin is bright due to a full-length glass roof.
- The interior configuration of Polestar 5 is still a mystery with no official words.
- Polestar 5 prototypes have appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the last two years. They feature all-wheel drive and a dual-motor electric powertrain that produces a combined output of 871 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, providing a targeted range of 372 miles.
- Polestar announced working on a 103-kWh battery to pair with its 650-kW dual-motor powertrain. The electric vehicle can reach an 80-percent state of charge within 20 minutes via an 800-volt architecture. A recent demonstration showcased a faster charging time of 10 minutes using a smaller 77-kWh battery pack.
- The base Polestar 5 should easily achieve 300 miles of range on a full charge, but final numbers won't be available until the official launch.
- The model is projected to cost around $100,000 and will take after its expected competitors, including the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, in terms of pricing and performance.
- The Polestar 5 is expected to debut as a 2026 model and launch sometime next year.

- Toyota will have to compete with Tesla’s extended-range Model Y and the Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV.
- Toyota might need to improve the battery capacity and efficiency of their models to be competitive in the electric vehicle market.
- It remains unclear whether Toyota can improve the range, or whether it will even pursue this, since the problem could be rather about battery price and supply.
