3 underrated Netflix movies you should watch this weekend (November 15-17)

  • This weekend, here are three underrated movies on Netflix that are worth your time: Dracula Untold, Sea of Love, and Darkest Hour.
  • Dracula Untold is less of a scary movie and more of an action-oriented origin tale retelling the early days of the most famous vampire of all time: Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Count Dracula.
  • Sea of Love is a movie that stars Al Pacino who plays Frank Keller, a NYC cop at the end of his rope. His ennui is interrupted by a new case: a man has been brutally murdered and the only clues are a lipstick-smeared cigarette and an old record that was playing the 1959 song Sea of Love when the murder took place.
  • Darkest Hour is a 2017 movie based on a crucial time period in the life of Winston Churchill, whose long, eventful life could fuel a dozen biopics. Joe Wright’s direction, the screenplay, and Kazu Hiro’s makeup transform Oldman into Churchill with one of the most convincing makeovers in cinema history.
  • Dracula Untold, Sea of Love, and Darkest Hour movies are all streaming on Netflix.
  • Dracula Untold is worth watching as it tells the origin story of one of literature’s greatest character.
  • Sea of Love is a movie that deserves a second chance in the spotlight as it was the movie that cleared the path for Dick Tracy, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Scent of a Woman.
  • Darkest Hour is a biopic about Winston Churchill, it reveals the essential nature of Churchill’s character.
  • Gary Oldman won an Oscars award for best actor in lead role for Darkest Hour, and makeup artist Kazu Hiro also won an Oscars award for makeup work.
  • Joe Wright’s 2017 hit film Darkest Hour reinforces the image of the British Bulldog, the Prime Minister who stood up to Nazi tyranny and rallied the British nation.

The best mysteries on Netflix right now

  • Mysteries are rare on Netflix which is a mystery in itself. But this month, we’re adding the South Korean thriller Oldboy, as well as one of Alfred Hitchcock’s all-time great films, Marnie.
  • Oldboy features Oh Dae-su, who loses 15 years of his life. After someone kidnaps him and locks him away from his loved ones, Dae-su wants revenge.
  • In Marnie, the title character, played by Tippi Hedren, is hired by a boss who fully expects her to steal from him. Hitchcock proves, yet again, why he was the Master of Suspense.
  • The stakes of the mystery in Wicked Little Letters may be small, but the freedom of a single mother depends on the outcome. Sent during the women’s suffragette movement, Edith Swan is the target of some wicked letters.
  • Vanished Into the Night is an Italian mystery thriller that features Riccardo Scamarcio as Pietro and Annabelle Wallis as Elena, a married couple with a love for their children. When the kids are abducted from Pietro’s home, Elena pushes him to do anything to get them back.
  • Colors of Evil: Red is a Polish thriller that features a bartender’s brutal murder which KGP Lublin detectives Leopold Bilski and Helena Bogucka investigate. However, as they search for answers, their lives become endangered.
  • Murder Mystery is Adam Sandler’s Netflix exclusive film and arguably his best. Along with Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler’s character is implicated when a billionaire is murdered while in their midst.
  • Enola Holmes is the younger sister of world-renowned detective Sherlock Holmes, and after her mother’s disappearance, she uses her intelligence to track her down and unearths a conspiracy in Victorian-era London.
  • Lost Girls is based on a true and long-spanning unsolved crime, and stars Amy Ryan as Mari Gilbert, the mother of teenager Shannan Gilbert, who urges Long Island authorities to find her missing daughter.
  • I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House is about a bedtime nurse who begins to suspect that the house she is working in is haunted. It’s a ghost story … or perhaps she is losing her mind.

  • Time Cut, a sci-fi slasher set in the early 2000s and a Netflix original, is another new addition.
  • Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is a good action movie that has a distinct visual style and storyline from the previous G.I. Joe movies.

The best feel-good movies on Netflix right now

  • Netflix has some very good feel-good movies, even though its selection is not very robust. The best of this month's new additions are Race and The World's Fastest Indian, two true stories that share some common elements with each other. The secret to their success is that the main characters overcome their anxieties, their personal roadblocks, and all other obstacles to achieve their goals. Jesse Owens came to Germany during the Nazi reign and proved that their racial superiority myths were just that in Race while Burt Munro in The World’s Fastest Indian traveled to the US to show off his motorcycle’s speed on an American racetrack.
  • Other recommended feel-good movies include Matilda, about a young girl who fights for an education and uses her telekinetic powers to create the life she’s always wanted; Aloha, a breezy rom-com that follows a military contractor who falls in love with a spiritual young woman and has to deal with his ex-girlfriend resurfacing; and Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, a behind-the-scenes look into the beloved PBS children’s program Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
  • If you're in the mood for music and entertainment, there's the documentary The Greatest Night in Pop that looks at the making of We Are the World; Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, which is a silly movie but is also a loving tribute to the annual competition; or The Harder They Fall, a mesmerizing take on the Western genre.
  • If you're looking for something heartwarming, try The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, which follows a young boy in an impoverished Malawi village and his struggle to educate himself and build a working wind turbine; or The Half of It, a coming-of-age romance that depicts a happy ending brought about by self-realization and self-improvement.
  • And for some good old-fashioned romance and comedy, there's Always Be My Maybe, a clever 2019 rom-com about childhood friends who rekindle their romantic relationship as adults; To All the Boys I've Loved Before, a 2018 romantic comedy based on Jenny Han’s novel, featuring Lana Condor; or Set It Up, a fresh and authentic take on the tried-and-true rom-com formula.
