Protecting Your Facebook Digital Footprints

  • Facebook encourages its users to share as much personal information as possible, leaving them vulnerable to cyberattacks like identity theft, cyberstalking, and phishing.
  • Oversharing personal information is the primary cause of these risks. By limiting posts to friends and making a few tweaks - Facebook can be used safely.
  • It is important to keep one's friends list limited to those who have a real-life connection, particularly for children and young people. Friends can see more of your data than followers.
  • Facebook timeline can give an intimate history of our lives, including personal data. Limiting the audience for Facebook posts and using privacy settings allows us to keep control of our timeline.
  • Facebook has Privacy controls that should be reviewed via Privacy Checkup, especially for vulnerable groups such as young people.
  • Privacy Checkup can control who can see profile information, access your default audience settings, block a person from contacting you, and much more.
  • A strong password or multifactor authentication helps to keep accounts secure and protect personal data such as friend's personal data.
  • For children, there is also a supervision option that allows you to monitor their Facebook friends, chats, privacy settings, and usage.
  • Facebook is how most of us share our experiences with friends and family, but it is essential to be aware of its risks and carefully consider the personal information being shared.
  • Sharing these tips on the best way to configure Facebook’s privacy controls and increasing awareness of the impacts of sharing personal data online helps everyone.

Facebook in the Workplace: Boon or Bane?

  • Organizational culture can impact whether employees are given access to Facebook at work, with greater trust and freedom linked to higher job satisfaction and lower stress levels. Restricting Facebook use can be seen as a sign of distrust, while digital interactions could help to reduce stress. However, reliance on social media could also damage workplace unity and reduce face-to-face communication. Establishing guidelines for Facebook use rather than prohibiting it outright may be the best solution, with designated times for access where possible. Employers need to encourage productivity and teamwork while nurturing a positive work culture.
  • Employers need to foster an effective work culture with clear guidelines for Facebook which do not interfere with employees’ productivity or relationships with colleagues. The reliance on Facebook to meet social needs could potentially hinder developing meaningful workplace relationships with colleagues. Working towards employees' job satisfaction can help them feel trusted, motivated, and leads to better fulfilment of their duties.
  • Organizations should establish clear guidelines that allow Facebook access, specific times to access Facebook should be allowed, instead of banning it completely, which should encourage job satisfaction and lead to positive work culture.
  • Limiting Facebook use could cause distrust amongst employees. Greater freedom boosts control levels leading to job satisfaction, and reduces stress, according to industrial-organizational psychology. Facebook could facilitate both genuine and non-genuine interactions, with smartphone use making it difficult to restrict access.
  • Facebook addictive nature could disrupt the workplace’s ability to foster positive and meaningful face-to-face communication and relationships. To maintain a positive culture, it is more effective to encourage employees to behave appropriately than to impose new rules and regulations.
  • Social Networking sites like Facebook could enhance an employee’s productivity by boosting their motivation levels and reducing stress. Good governance and a coherent positive culture may provide a more lasting solution to managing Facebook behaviors in the workplace.
  • Employees can use Facebook wherever possible without compromising productivity or their relationships with colleagues. Setting ground-rules and nurturing a positive work ethic that promotes productivity and teamwork should be prioritized.
  • Employers should encourage having an open corporate culture with trust and clearly defined guidelines on Facebook usage throughout the company while making sure it does not become a distraction to employees.
  • Providing clear set up guidelines, trust, and a positive work culture for employees around the use of Facebook may be more effective than imposing new rules and regulations. A clear priority should be encouraging employees to strive towards boosting productivity and teambuilding.
  • Workplace culture plays a significant factor in allowing employees to access social networking sites in line with company policies. Banning Facebook is not always effective because smartphones have made it possible to access Facebook anywhere.

How to know if someone blocked you on WhatsApp (2024)

  • If the user’s profile picture, last seen, and online status are no longer visible, you’ve likely been blocked.
  • If you’re unable to view the user’s Status updates or add them to a group chat, it’s possible you’ve been blocked.
  • If your messages only display a single gray tick without a second blue tick, and calling gets stuck at 'Calling', you may have been blocked.
  • Has the user’s profile picture suddenly disappeared? It can only mean one of two things: they either deleted their profile picture or blocked you.
  • When someone blocks you on WhatsApp, their last seen and online status automatically disappears. There’s nothing displayed in its designated space.
  • The user can manually hide their status updates thanks to WhatsApp’s privacy settings, but when someone blocks you on WhatsApp, even their Status updates are hidden from you.
  • WhatsApp won’t allow you to add users to WhatsApp groups if they’ve blocked you. To check this, try and add the user to a WhatsApp group.
  • If your message only displays a single gray tick and does not change to double gray ticks even after a couple of days, you’ve certainly been blocked.
  • If the status of the outgoing call is 'Calling', it means the call has not yet connected. The status will change to 'Ringing' in a few moments, meaning the recipient has received the call.
  • That said, we wouldn’t try to create any further issues by contacting the person through some other medium. WhatsApp and other social media platforms do not notify users of being blocked to avoid conflict and protect users’ privacy.
