Accelerate SAP S/4HANA deployments with ‘Guided Deployment Automation for SAP’

  • Google Cloud has introduced Guided Deployment Automation for SAP on its cloud-based Workload Manager to simplify and automate the deployment process of SAP workload on Google Cloud.
  • Guided Deployment Automation for SAP permits customers to specify the workload they are trying to deploy, before incorporating guided guidance, best practices and deployment automation into the console.
  • This service provides customers who choose to deploy SAP S/4HANA on Google Cloud with several benefits such as efficiency, reliability and flexibility.
  • The solution is designed to simplify the optionally very lengthy and error-prone deployment process by automating key steps and enabling infrastructure provisioning.
  • Customers can deploy in “one click” directly from the console or generate an equivalent Terraform and Ansible to include in existing pipelines or customise further.
  • Google does not charge for the deployment service, but customers pay for the services consumed during the deployment.
  • Guided Deployment Automation for SAP aligns with best practices and the latest guidance from both Google and SAP and incorporates built-in checks and safeguards.
  • The solution is accessible via Workload Manager and requires users to select which supported SAP products and versions they want to deploy.
  • Google Cloud’s Workload Manager for Guided Deployment Automation for SAP will also generate infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible) based on users’ selections.
  • This automation also performs operating system configuration and installation of required agents while incorporating a temporary VM instance to help with orchestration and execution.

Automatically disabling leaked service account keys: What you need to know

  • Google Cloud's Identity and Access Management (IAM) has released stronger security defaults that improve baseline security and control of cloud environments.
  • Google offers alternatives for organisations such as external authentication to access its APIs and resources.
  • To minimise risks of service account keys being leaked elsewhere, Google is enhancing its detection service that regularly scans public repositories for leaked keys and notifies affected customers.
  • Starting June 16, 2024, exposed service account keys that have been detected in services including public repos will be automatically disabled by default for new and existing customers.
  • Disabling leaked service account keys is an organisational policy update, made possible by close partnership with secret-scanning programs at public repositories such as GitHub and GitLab.
  • Despite the risks, service account keys remain widely used in production environments, but Google is giving its customers the option of opting in to the enhanced service earlier.
  • After June 16, disabling leaked key protection will be turned on by default for existing customers who didn’t make a selection, to help safeguard their cloud environments.
  • To automatically disable exposed service account keys, follow three simple steps: go to the organisation policies page, set the policy source to override parent's policy and add a custom allow rule.
  • It's important that your organisation adopts security best practices such as avoiding embedding keys in code to minimise exposure risks, performing frequent key rotations, and enforcing strong IAM policies based on the principle of least privilege.
  • Google is committed to protecting your Google Cloud environment and offers additional layers of security to safeguard your cloud environment from security threats.
